The world is too much with us(1807):(1)
The world is too much with us; late(2) and soon
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers(3);
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon! (4)
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon,
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;(5)
It moves us not.-Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan (6)suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus(7) rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton(8) blow his wreathed horn.
(2)Of late
The world is too much with us”意為-”這世界對我們來說實在太沉重了”。
“This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon,
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;”
It moves us not.-Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
The world is too much with us的 "The world”->Christian World/Modern World
